BART Governance

BART is governed by a 9-member board of directors who are elected to a 4-year term by voters in their districts. The three counties within its district (San Francisco, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties) are divided into 9 districts as follows:

District 1: Contra Costa County, including the cities of Alamo, Clayton, Concord, Danville, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Pacheco, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek.

District 2: Contra Costa County, including the cities of Antioch, Bay Point, Bethel Island, Brentwood, Byron, Clyde, Crockett, Discovery Bay, El Sobrante, Hercules, Knightsen, Martinez, Oakley, Pacheco, Pinole, Pitsburg, Pleasant Hill, Port Costa, and Rodeo.

District 3: Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, including the cities of Berkeley, Castro Valley, Hayward, Oakland, Piedmont, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and Kensington.

District 4: Alameda County, including the cities of Alameda and Oakland.

District 5: Alameda and Contra Costa Counties including the cities of Castro Valley, Dublin, Hayward, Livermore, Pleasanton, Sunol, Danville, and San Ramon.

District 6: Alameda County, including the cities of Fremont, Hayward, Newark, and Union City.

District 7: Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco Counties including the cities of Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Richmond, San Pablo, and San Francisco.

District 8: San Francisco County, including the city of San Francisco.

District 9: San Francisco County, including the city of San Francisco.
Board meetings are held twice a month on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 9am in the Board Room on the third floor of the 20th Street Mall, Kaiser Center, 344 20th Street, Oakland, CA.
